The Wayne Owens Chair, established in 2011 by the Tanner Humanities Center and Hinckley Institute of Politics, invites a visiting professor specializing in Middle East-North Africa Studies to teach and lecture at the University of Utah. The Owens Chair leads undergraduate and graduate courses and is open to senior scholars-teachers in History, Political Science, Literature, Sociology, Anthropology, and Gender Studies, among other disciplines. Selected professors will also take part in meetings, conferences, and other public outreach opportunities with diverse communities on and off campus.
The Chair includes a $60,000 stipend and is available for either the fall or spring semester.
To apply for the 2014-15 academic year, please send electronically a letter of intent, current curriculum vitae, and course proposal to Bob Goldberg at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please also arrange to have two letters of recommendation submitted to support your application.
The Owens Chair is a part of a larger initiative to support Middle Eastern Studies on campus. We hope that this appointment will lead to future collaboration between the University of Utah and a university in the Middle East.
