September 27, 2011
Can the principles of Mormonism contribute to the resolution of fundamental problems that divide the American people? Can a religion that is authoritarian in nature help solve the problems of a democracy? Join us when Richard Bushman explores the basic contradictions in national values that give rise to these and other questions in his fascinating lecture,“Mormonism and the Public Good.”
Dr. Bushman was the Howard W. Hunter Chair of Mormon Studies at Claremont Graduate University. He received his Ph.D. in the history of American civilization from Harvard University and is the author of several critically acclaimed books, most recently the biography, Joseph Smith: Rough Stone Rolling.
