IMPORTANT TRAVEL INFORMATION

Manifest Destiny Reconsidered: The Utah Experience begins on Sunday (June 16 and July 7, 2019) at 5:30 p.m. MST with check-in, a welcome dinner, and an opening lecture. It ends on Friday (June 21 and July 12, 2019) at 5:30 p.m. MST. On Friday, the group will travel to the Golden Spike National Historic Site, attend a panel discussion, complete lesson plans and reflective essays, and submit evaluations. Please plan your travel to accommodate these start and end times.

LODGING

If you require lodging to attend our workshop, we strongly encourage you to stay at the University Guest House located in Historic Fort Douglas on the University of Utah campus: universityguesthouse.com. The Tanner Center has booked a block of rooms and we will make your lodging arrangements for you. The cost is $115 per night and a continental breakfast is included. The Guest House is located within walking and campus shuttle distance to the Tanner Humanities Center and other campus facilities and recreational areas. There are a variety of lodging options in Salt Lake City, however, if you prefer to stay elsewhere: www.visitsaltlake.com.

The Utah Transit Authority’s TRAX is Salt Lake Valley’s light rail system, and the University of Utah is situated along the Red Line. The Tanner Humanities Center is a short walk or shuttle ride from the Red Line’s South Campus stop, and the University Guest House is a short walk from the Red Line’s Fort Douglas stop.

To reach the Guest House from the Airport, take the Green Line to the Court House and transfer to the Red Line to University. To reach the Airport from the Guest House, take the Red Line to the Court House and transfer to the Green Line to Airport.

University of Utah Campus Shuttles

Free campus shuttles operate Monday through Friday from approximately 06:00 AM to 06:00 PM depending on the route. There is no regular weekend service. For routes, schedules, and live shuttle tracking: click here.

Salt Lake City sits at an altitude of 4,226 feet. While its summers are beautiful, they also are hot and dry. Our landmark visits may require participants to walk uphill or on uneven terrain and be in the sun occasionally. We advise that participants come prepared with sturdy walking shoes, comfortable clothing, sun protection, and water bottle.
